Several wierd opinions are being heard around the school nowaday. Half of us don’t even note what is and what’s not happening. Anyway, Friday. Mr Tan reminds us that we’ll have an attire check on Monday. And one loud “Haaa….” Whatever for?

Which frigging idiots don’t realise that we have swimming lessons first thing Monday morning.

Ie. Not attire check.

Ok, now that we’re through with the first one. We move on to the next. Everyone has forgotten what the Breaking Barriers effort is for. Its a charity concert damnit. A CHARITY CONCERT. Stop looking at the performances and criticising or anything. These poeple are up there using their sweat, tears everything. Why? Because they can give two hoots about people who don’t ride around in BMWs.

Sometimes I realise how fine a legacy Ms. Flo is leaving behind. Actually I think it wouldn’t harm. In fact, I think it is our duty to write her a tribute. She’s doing that for precisely the cause the charity concert takes pride in. FROM APATHY…TO SYNERGY. And she doesn’t even get anything out of it. She’s leaving and she’s doing this because she care. Thank you Ms Flo.

So please. Even if the wave hasn’t been caught.

Even if you haven’t bought your tickets oor anything.

I am sick of hearing you people say its a sucky concert.

People have poured their souls into it.

RESPECT THEM.

A very simple policy that Singapore recently took up is in actual fact this. Show everyone else the best. Newspapers, ChannelNewsAsia, whatever. Nowadays, we test to be overly light at heart. We’re one step away from cateogorising US based ice cream companies as something to do with Osama bin Laden. Its ridiculous. Take for a very simple example the article about our school. Sure, the journalist (Sandra Devi) has nice things to say about our school. But only nice things? Are there only nice things in our school.

Definitely not. I think it’s an idealistic portayal of what the rest of the country think’s we’re producing- Einsteins. The header itself portrays that sort of an image. Something about breeding future Einsteins and Hawkings. Let me demonstate why these is not true.

I once read a biography of Stephen Hawkings. True to say, Hawkings has long been my idol because of his successes despite his disabilities but at our age, Hawkings devoured physics books and often was able to ask physics questions that at point even his teacher were not able to answer. So let me ask you a fundamental question. Now let’s compare this with an average student from NUS High. Please do note this is an observational note and hence cannot be generalised to be an insiders opinion about the going ons in NUS High. So the conversation will go like this.

Teacher: So, like I was saying, this car due to its minimal turbulent flow, is able to virtually”glide through the air”. So that’s about it for today, your aissignment is due next Wednesday. Any questions?

Student: Yes sir. Next Thursday can?

You should get the point. Are we Einstiein’s and Hawkings. Hardly. But what we will be. That’s a different story.

Well.

Ok. In case you guys aren’t able to see all the rules of the tagboard and comprehend them, here are all the rules once again. I will be sending you all the rules in an email as well. If need be, I shall also create a background with the rules all there. So in case you guys forget the rules, jus minimise a couple of windows and u will see the rules all there. I do hope u guys all realise the importance and the seriousness of this issue. If you guys do not abide by the rules, i do suggest you guys DO NOT TAG AT ALL. Heres a run thru ( more will be added) – Tag with your real name. _ Tag with your real ENGLISH name. – Do not insult anyone here. Do it elsewhere. We shall not be responsible if you have a nosebleed as a result of tagging here. (Not even if you knocked your head on the keyboard). – No racist, nationalist (got such thing?) or sexist comments.
- If you do tag without using your name, please leave your name somewhere in the message you tag.
Example: -
101. fineline – May 7, 2006[Edit]every1 . reiko here. honestly… blah blah blah ( no offence to reiko here… )

So as you see in this example, if you do want some fanciful name, leave your real name behind as well. Love your name. Your parents gave it to you.
- NO USING VULGARITIES.
This is extremely important.
I do not want to see “colourful words” as Mr Sukandar calls it. I do not want ppl to go cursing and swearing. As said, the kinda words you use do reflect on the kind of person you are.

I hope all of you do treat this seriously as the admin team does.
If you do not.
Don’t tag.

Revision Centres

May 7, 2006

Due to the upcoming exams,  we are in the process of creating pages where you can comment like in the tag section about your questions in different topics.

Studying? Nah.

May 4, 2006

So we all know that all of us are going to fail at least one module this term, if not fail, barely pass. I would guess some of the "candidates" would be physics and chem (bridging module). It's either we just don't understand the concepts or we can't stay awake during classes for…certain…reasons. Cough.

Add to that all the various careless mistakes that we will definitely make for math (I, for one, am sure I'm going to get some number in my adjoint matrix wrong), like forgetting to list the domains of inverse functions and whatnot, and you have this long gloomy list of "prospects of what is to come".

Not that I don't hope for the exams to come earlier. I mean, during the exams, I tend to live life like a zombie. You know, just studying all the time…even forgetting to eat. Especially for bio since I don't seem to have retained anything for some weird reasons.

Yes, the mugging season is upon us.

The exams are starting next week and we're all feverishly studying (or at least trying to), but then, nothing is really going into our heads. Ok, I bet many of you disagree with me but think of it: Can you remember anything you just looked through?

Most of the information is retained in our subconscious where, magically, during the exam, it will penetrate into our conscious mind and our brain will send out some nervous signal to trigger our muscles to write down the answer.

Maybe we should try the "sleeping" method. You know, the one where you listen to some disc while sleeping and memorise the stuff. Or something like that.

But most of the time, if you're asked a specific question like…um… "what is electronegativity" I'd bet that you have to stop, think for awhile, and then dredge the facts out if they're even dredgeable at that point in time.

(In the first place, I can't even remember what electronegativity is. I think it's got something to do with gaining electrons).

So you see, there isn't really a point in studying so hard. Ah, this is the purpose of my "speech", and I think if I really presented this, Ms Sim would totally kill me and tell me that there aren't any statistics/expert opinions to support my (nonexistent) arguments. No, that wasn't sarcastic. It is a feature of persuasive speech after all.

Back to the point. Studying so hard doesn't really achieve anything in essence. We're just overworking and tiring out our brains when they could be enjoying themselves watching TV or the equivalent.

And sometimes this tiredness may even lead to a mental block during the exams. Gasp. So I advise you, put down your books for a little while and relax. Yeah, we all know we're going to fail something already, so what's the point?
